Business / Education Collaboration

Develops, executes and evaluates programs and activities that offer enhanced opportunities for businesses and schools to partner in developing and implementing school restructuring, promoting rigorous academic and high quality work experiences for students. Maintains and enhances programs that assist teachers and administrators to improve their instructional techniques and management skills. Increases the active involvement of the business community in program design and curriculum development. Develops resources to sustain effective school-to-career systems.

Workforce Skill Development
& Enhancement


Spearheads collaborative efforts to increase and enhance the skills of incumbent workers so that their income levels can increase, and employers will have increased skill level from which to promote employees. Partners with other local groups to identify and match workers with employers once specified skill levels are enhanced. Engages in research and development activities.

Graduate Retention

Seeks and retains graduates of regional colleges and universities, as well as area students obtaining degrees outside the region, thereby developing a highly qualified pool of graduates with the requisite skills to support existing companies and attract new employers to Northeast Indiana. Linkages to Economic Development

Promotes workforce development as a key factor in economic growth and development. Develops coalitions with local, city and state economic development entities to ensure that workforce issues are included in all economic development thrusts. Promotes a systematic link between economic development and workforce development.

Advocacy

Develops position statements and identifies issues relating to education and workforce development that have the potential for legislative action through the Legislative Action Committee. Works with local and state lobbyists to promote tax credits for employers who provide internships for students. Works with the Workforce Investment Board, city and county officials and all elected officials to promote workforce development issues. Committee members will need to be research oriented, have good problem solving skills and an interest in legislative issues.
